The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team fell to the visiting Emmanuel College Lions by a score of 82-61 this evening inside the Wheeler Center. The Lions earn the season sweep over the Crusaders as they improve to 9-8 overall and 5-5 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 1-17 overall and 1-10 in league play. Belmont Abbey must recover quickly as it hosts Erskine tomorrow night at 7:30.
Emmanuel never trailed as it opened the game on a 14-5 run. Belmont Abbey tied the game at 19 with 8:59 to play in the half, but Emmanuel surged ahead by ten points at the break as it closed the stanza by outscoring the Crusaders 18-9. The Lions shot 60 percent from the field to the Abbey's 41 percent.
The visitors put the game away early in the second half as they began with a 12-5 run to move ahead by 17. From there, the Crusaders could only get as close as 13 points as Emmanuel earned the easy win.
Belmont Abbey shot 46 percent from the floor but was undone by 21 turnovers. Ray Chen led three Crusaders in double figures with 15 points. Drexler Clark added 14 and Deion Lane netted 13. Lane added seven rebounds.
