LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Sophomore Paige Hinds made six saves, but a shorthanded Belmont Abbey team fell 4-0 at Bellarmine Saturday afternoon in ECAC Division II Field Hockey League action. A total of only 12 players were available to the Crusaders due to a variety of injuries and illness and playing the second half with as few as nine at one point. They still managed to gain shot during that span.
The Knights (8-10, 5-5) broke onto the scoreboard at the 11:54 mark when a shot from six feet away got past Hinds. They added a second goal just 2:37 after halftime for a 2-0 lead, then later scored twice in a five-minute span for the final margin.
Belmont Abbey finished its second season of field hockey with a 7-11, 2-8 record. The Crusaders' four-win improvement was complimented by the best start in school history (4-0) and several record-setting individual performances.
