CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The final match of Belmont Abbey's inaugural field hockey season was cancelled after confusion involving the officiating crew. The Crusaders were slated to play Mercyhurst at the Queens Athletic Complex in Charlotte.
The matchup was left off the officiating scheduling system, so the game was not assigned. The two teams played a scrimmage instead.
Belmont Abbey wrapped up its first year of play with a 3-12 record, using a roster comprised of one junior, three sophomores and 12 freshmen. In the process, the Crusaders picked up wins at home, on the road and at a neutral site, averaged 2.40 goals while surrendering 3.07 and picked up a pair of shutouts. BAC also had its first conference award winner as Demetria Barrow was named ECAC Rookie of the Week for September 19-25.
