TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey Crusaders Scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to advance in the Conference Carolinas Baseball Tournament as they defeated the seventh-seeded Emmanuel Lions 6-5. The fifth-seeded Crusaders (26-23) collected nine hits including two home runs as they eliminated Emmanuel (25-27).
Ben Gobbel went 3-for-5 including a two-run home run.
Zach Aehlert recorded two hits with his third home run of the tournament.
Patrick Taylor led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, trailing 5-4. Gobbel's single and Richard DeLaCruz's walk loaded the bases for Mason Dodd to drive in a run with a sac fly. The Crusades were able to tie the game on a passed ball and win on a wild pitch.
Belmont starter Griffin Baker pitched 5.0 innings allowing three hits and striking out four.
Blake Waldren pitched two innings in relief recording a strikeout.
Parker MacPhail was credited with his fourth win after tossing the last two innings.
The Crusades will play tomorrow at 3 pm against the either Mount Olive, Barton, or Erskine in Tigerville, S.C.
