Belmont Abbey Director of Athletics Stephen Miss announced today the hiring of Nick Radkewich a 2000 U.S. Olympian, as the Head Men's & Women's Cross Country & Track & Field Coach. Radkewich will begin his duties July 15.

"As a World-Class Athlete, with outstanding academic credentials, former Olympian Nick Radkewich will make a strong contribution to building up our culture of excellence and virtue by mentoring and coaching our student-athletes to double their talents in mind, body and spirit," said Belmont Abbey College President, Dr. Bill Thierfelder.

"This is an exciting time for Belmont Abbey College Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country programs," Miss said. "Coach Radkewich's impressive credentials, proven leadership, and technical expertise combined with the College's commitment to provide first-rate, new facilities makes for an extremely bright future for our student-athletes."

Radkewich, who represented the United States in the 2000 Sydney Olympics as a triathlete, comes to Belmont Abbey from Endicott University in Beverly, Massachusetts, where he spent the past two seasons as the Head Men's & Women's Cross Country Coach. 

"I want to thank President Thierfelder and Athletic Director Stephen Miss for welcoming me to the Belmont Abbey community and the Crusader Athletic Department," Radkewich said. "Since my first visit to campus three years ago I felt Belmont Abbey was the right environment for me as a coach and my family. I look forward to arriving on campus and preparing for the upcoming year. The cross country and track & field team is already developing into a great program, and  I am excited to engage the student-athletes in making an impact at the Conference Carolinas Championships in 2015-16."


A former IronKids National Champion in 1985, Radkewich went on to become the 1990 US Age Group National Champion & US Junior National Champion, the 1998 US Olympic Format Elite Champion, USA Triathlon Elite Athlete of the Year, Olympic Committee Triathlete of the Year and also represented the U.S. in the Goodwill Games twice, having placed fifth in one of those appearances.

Radkewich is a certified USA Track & Field Registered Level 1 Coach and has been accepted into the USA Track & Field Level 2 Coach program. Radkewich also is a US Olympic Triathlon Level 1 Coach.  Prior to Endicott University, Coach Radkewich served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Rivier University in Nashua, New Hampshire. His team's completed their most successful season in over a decade as they won Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Rookie of the Week twice, one Male Runner of the Week, had male and female overall invitational winners and the women won two team titles.  Radkewich also has served as a manager with the Elite Triathlon Academy (ETA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  In this role, he mentored and the developed the athletes through the rigors of elite triathlon training and adaptation to life as an Olympian hopeful.

Radkewich was two-time Foot Locker National Championship qualifier in Florida and was a State Cross Country Runner up in cross country and track from Longwood Lyman High School.   He went on to compete in cross country and track at the University of Notre Dame earning all-conference honors 5 times, including a conference runner up in cross country, and 5,000 meter best of 14:24 on the track.

A 1993 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor's of Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Radkewich went on to obtain his Masters of Science, Sports & Recreation Management-Coaching in 2010 from New England College.

Radkewich will play a key role in the potential expansion of the College's track & field facilities. Belmont Abbey College has retained CHA Consulting to develop plans for a new facility on campus.
