2015 Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year
Brooke McCraw begins the 2016 season as her fourth as the Head Softball Coach at Belmont Abbey College. Le Sage joined the Abbey after spending the 2012 season as an assistant at Winthrop University.
McCraw was named the 2015 Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year, becoming Belmont Abbey's first Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year selection since the 2005 season. Picked to finish second to last in the preseason coaches poll, McCraw guided the Crusaders to 14 league wins, an 11 game turnaround from last season, as she led the Crusaders to a third place finish, the highest since 2006. The 14 conference wins equaled the total of the previous three seasons combined. The 14 wins included five doubleheader sweeps. McCraw coached two first team selections, the first Crusader to earn first team honors since 2009 and the first time with multiple players since 2006. The five all-conference selections are the most since 2006.
At Winthrop, the former Long Beach State catcher served as the infield/outfield defensive coordinator, tutored the Eagles catchers and was the hitting instructor.
Prior to her appointment at Winthrop, McCraw spent one season as an assistant head coach at the University Antelope Valley in Lancaster, California, where she was the infield defensive coordinator, worked with the pitchers and catchers and was the hitting instructor.
Before joining Antelope Valley, McCraw was an assistant coach at Mt. San Antonio Community College in Walnut, California. In addition to her softball duties, Le Sage was also a physical education professor.
The Corona, California native began her coaching career as an assistant at El Modena High School in Orange County, California. She worked with all aspects of the program and served as the first base coach.
McCraw was a four year starter at catcher for Long Beach State from 2004-08. After her collegiate career expired, Le Sage played on the Professional Fastpitch Xtreme Tour (PFX Tour) in 2009 and had the defensive play of the game at the Texas Tour stop. From 2008-11, she worked as a volunteer assistant for the Filly’s Gold 18u in Jurupa Valley, California.
For the last three years, McCraw has coordinated several mission trips through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Formerly Brooke LeSage, McCraw and her husband, Johnny, were married December 29, 2015.
