Maxwell Hits Double Figures with 12 Kills

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Liam Maxwell tallied double figures with 12 kills and David Radoszewski registered 17 digs, but Lees-McRae rallied for a 3-1 (25-27, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19) victory over Belmont Abbey in men's volleyball action Tuesday night. 

Gavin Schaffer and Robert Nixon added eight and six kills, respectively, for the Crusaders (4-15, 3-10). Wes Rogman of Lees-McRae led all attackers with 16 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.

Belmont Abbey won the opening set, 27-25, by scoring the final two points. The Crusaders opened a 15-7 lead at the start before seeing the Bobcats answer with six straight points. The Abbey pushed the lead back to 17-13 and later 24-21 before LMC saved three set points.

In the second, Belmont Abbey led 12-10 before four straight points put LMC in the lead. The Crusaders tied the set at 16-all but the Bobcats scored two in a row and eight of the next nine points for a 24-17 lead. They took the set 25-18.

A 7-1 run was the difference in the third as LMC turned a 16-14 lead into 23-15. The Crusaders tried to rally, scoring six of the next seven points to close to within 24-21, but Lees-McRae survived with the final kill.

The final set opened with leads of 3-0 and 7-2 for the home team and the Crusaders never recovered, falling by a 25-19 count.

Belmont Abbey returns home on Friday night with a non-conference match against Cal Baptist at 7 p.m. in the Wheeler Center. The action is the annual #RaisetheRed match for the Crusaders.
