BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team fought back to earn a 2-2 tie against Chowan Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Hawks (3-3-1) controlled the ball for much of the first half striking first in the 32nd minute as Terell Williamson sent a cross into the back of the net. Chowan took the 1-0 lead into the break despite Crusader keeper Wes Holifield's six saves.
Senior Liam Quinn sparked the Crusaders (1-3-2) at the start of the second stanza lacing a loose ball into the corner of the goal in the 48th minute to tie the score. The Hawks responded immediately in the 49th minute with a goal of their own, retaking the lead as Carl Kennedy headed a cross into the net.
The Abbey's Clay Dimick tied it up again taking a perfectly led pass from Nick Fuller and striking it into the right corner. The Crusaders sent the game into overtime in which they controlled most of the ball possession outshooting the Hawks 6-1 in the two extra frames.
The Crusaders will travel to Emmanuel for their next game which will take place Saturday at 7:00 P.M.
