The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team battled the visiting Barton Bulldogs to a 0-0 draw this afternoon at Alumni Field in a Conference Carolinas matchup. Belmont Abbey is now 1-8-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the league, while Barton is now 1-8-1 overall and 0-5-1 in Conference Carolinas.
Both teams finished with 15 shots as there were only three legitimate scoring chances in the match.
The first came for the Crusaders in the 37th minute as Liam Quinn one timed a failed Bulldogs clearance from 18 yards out. The attempt was headed to the right corner of the net, but goalkeeper Jens Madsen Hordvik made a diving save and tipped the ball over the line.
Belmont Abbey had its next chance in the 68th minute as Nick Fuller raced behind the Bulldogs defense, ran down a long through ball from a defender and was left one on one with Hordvik, but Fuller's attempt sailed right into Hordvik's chest.
The best scoring chance of the match, however came from Barton, and the effort of Alex David in the 86th minute hit the left post, no more than an inch away from the goal mouth. He ran down a long pass from Jovan Gracia, dribbled to the right of the box and fired a cross shot that hit the post.
Both teams finished with 15 shots. Belmont Abbey finished with a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks. Hordvik and Luke Whelan both stopped seven shots.
The Crusaders are back in action Saturday at 5:00 when going on the road to face Southern Wesleyan.
