Men's Soccer Yields Two Second Half Goals As Wingate Claims 2-0 Win

The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team surrendered a pair of second half goals as the Wingate Bulldogs earned a 2-0 victory this afternoon at Alumni Field. Wingate improves to 6-2-0, while Belmont Abbey falls to 2-6-0.

After a scoreless first half in which the Bulldogs outshot the Abbey 5-1, Wingate broke through in the 66th minute as Peron Da Silva scored the first of his two goals with a shot from the left side of the box into the top right corner of the net.

19 minutes later, Da Silva struck again, as he ripped a laser that bounced off of the crossbar, caromed straight down, and back up into the top of the net for his second goal of the match.

Prior to the scoring, both teams had good scoring chances, mostly by Wingate, the best coming with 36 minutes left in the game as Kyle Searles redirected a 30-yard blast over the top of the crossbar.

Later in the half, Belmont Abbey's Chris Wall nearly tied the match with a header off of a Declan McQuillan free kick that landed on top of the net.

Finally, with under five seconds left, Mark Wallace sent a bicycle kick that flew just wide left of the post.

Wingate outshot the Abbey 16-6. Searles made five saves for the Crusaders.
