The Pfeiffer men's soccer team scored once in each half as the Falcons gained a 2-0 win over Belmont Abbey this afternoon at Lefko Field. Pfeiffer improves to 3-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 2-5-0 overall and 0-3-0 in Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders outshot the Falcons 16-14 and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks, but it was Pfeiffer that took advantage of its chances.
Pfeiffer netted its first goal in the 25th minute on a header from Dammy Balogun that beat Kyle Searles. Balogun redirected a throw in from Seth Day that sailed past Searles for the marker.
The lead stayed at 1-0 through the end of the half, and the Falcons added an insurance goal in the 66th minute as Dey logged his second assist when he tracked a through ball behind the Crusader defense to a speeding Simon Leslie. Leslie beat Searles bottom right on the one touch for his second goal of the season.
Belmont Abbey increased the pressure late, but it could not find the back of the net as Pfeiffer earned the victory.
