The Lees-McRae men's soccer team scored two goals in each half as the Bobcats earned 4-0 win over the visiting Belmont Abbey Crusaders this evening. Both teams records are now 2-3, but the Bobcats are now 1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 0-1.
Lees-McRae scored the only goal it would need just 2:39 into the contest, as Scott Alford headed home an Andrew Shoemaker cross for a 1-0 lead.
27 minutes later, the Bobcats added another marker. Jordan Wright scored the first of his two goals on the night on an assist from Yago Xavier, who chipped a ball over the Abbey defense for Wright, who ran it down and beat Kyle Searles to the far post.
Wright struck again in the 73rd minute as he buried home a rebound off of a missed Bobcats shot for his second of the night, and of the season.
The Bobcats closed the scoring with just under eight minutes left in the game. Chris DeSanto fed Isuaro Estrada, whose finish was clean for his first goal of the year.
Lees-McRae outshot the Abbey 20-8 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Searles made three saves in the first 45 minutes. Dominic Schneider played the second half and stopped a pair of shots.
