INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Belmont Abbey baseball team saw its 2018 season extended Sunday night with an at-large invitation to the NCAA Southeast Regional. The No. 3 seeded Crusaders will face No. 6 Wingate at 11 a.m. on Thursday. The tournament will be hosted by No. 1 seed North Greenville.
The other teams in the regional are No. 2 seed Georgia College, No. 4 seed Columbus State, No. 5 seed UNC-Pembroke and No. 7 seed Lincoln Memorial.
Belmont Abbey finished the regular-season with a 37-12 record, reaching as high as a No. 2 national ranking in March. The Crusaders were third in the Conference Carolinas' regular-season standings before posting a 1-2 mark at the league tournament. Five players were named first-team all-conference with Luke Cureton earning Player of the Year recognition.
During the regular season, The Abbey won both contests against Wingate -- 5-4 on the road on Feb. 20 and 10-5 at home on March 7.
Belmont Abbey is making its sixth appearance in the Division II Championship, holding an 8-10 overall record. Previous appearances came in 1968, 2001, 2008, 2009 and 2016. The Crusaders' best finish came in 2009, when they won the Southeast Regional, then finished third overall at the College World Series in Cary, N.C.
Tickets are $10 per day, general admission, and may be purchased at the stadium. Bleacher and grass seating is available and personal seats will be allowed. However, tents, canopies and coolers will not be allowed.
