Justin Bates was named the Assistant Athletics Director for Internal Operations on August 19. Bates, a 2012 Belmont Abbey graduate, was a member of the Crusaders wrestling team during his undergraduate career.
Bates will be responsible for game management, camps, facilities and special events.
Bates comes back to Belmont after spending the past two years as the Assistant Camp Director at Camp Cayuga in Peapack, New Jersey. While there, he oversaw over 60 activity sites, managed 120-160 instructors and supervisors and scheduled athletic tournaments and games both home and away against other camps in the area.
Prior to his appointment at Camp Cayuga, Bates served as the Assistant Athletics Director at Gaston Day School for the 2012-13 school year. He assisted the department with all administrative roles and also served as the assistant boys basketball coach.
A 2012 Belmont Abbey graduate with a degree in Sport Management, Bates competed on the wrestling team for one season before transitioning to a student coach position. He was the Head committee member for NCAA Bid Proposal for the 2014 Div. II National Wrestling Tournament, Utilized social media networking to increase program awareness and created new marketing promotions strategy, first of kind, for the program to increase home match attendance. He also assisted the department in sports information.
His service was rewarded in 2012 as he was the recipient of the Larry Reidy Award, which is presented to the person who has displayed outstanding service to the athletic department.
