Belmont Abbey College Athletic Director Stephen Miss has announced the hiring of Patrick Polomski as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, the first person to take on the role at the College. Polomski will be responsible for all weight room activities and will assist with game day management during home events.
Polomski enters into an expanding Abbey athletic department. The addition of competitive cheerleading and the growth of most teams’ rosters reflect the major role Coach Polomski is being given for the department. His hire comes at an important time as NCAA Division II passed legislation in January allowing Strength and Conditioning Coaches more flexibility working with student-athletes, especially during the important summer months.
"As a newly created position, and yet another tangible example of the vitality and growth of not only the Athletic Department but of Belmont Abbey College as a whole, the significance of making the right hire for our first Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Weight Room Facility Supervisor in the College’s history was not lost on us; what became increasingly evident during the search process, however, was that due to the frequency and the nature of the interaction between a head strength coach and each and every student-athlete, coach, athletic trainer, and administrator within an athletic department, this individual’s potential impact was unprecedented," Miss said.
"Coach Patrick Polomski will make an immediate positive impact on our community and is the right fit to initiate and develop our Strength and Conditioning program. His character, work ethic, intensity, and enthusiasm when faced with a challenge impressed us deeply, and his vision to design, implement, maintain, and continually assess sport specific strength and conditioning workouts convinced us that he possesses the requisite expertise to enable our student-athletes not only to maximize performance but to prevent injury as well. Most importantly, Coach Polomski possesses the necessary skills, talents, and abilities to facilitate the formation and development of our student-athletes as well-rounded, whole persons capable of becoming a blessing to themselves and others."
"I am very excited to take on the role of Belmont Abbey's first Head Strength and Conditioning Coach," Polomski said. "I look forward to contributing to the overall development and success of the student-athletes."
Polomski comes to Belmont Abbey from the Northeast Sports Training Center in Warwick, Rhode Island, where he worked the past year as a Strength and Conditioning coach. He worked directly with the Brown University Rugby team and the Providence Capitals Hockey team.
Prior to his role in Rhode Island, Polomski served in strength and conditioning coaching roles at Moravian, Lafayette, and Newberry Colleges, respectively.
Polomski is a 2012 graduate of Montclair State University with a major in General Nutrition and is working towards his masters degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania, which he will earn in December.
He is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and holds certifications as a Performance Enhancement Specialist and as a Level 2 Speed Specialist.
