Brother Paul Shanley, O.S.B. has been a respected member of the Belmont Abbey College community for more than three decades - as a monk, a teacher, Head Cross Country Coach, and Sports Information Director.
The Abbey's cross country coach for 23 years, he earned Coach of the Year honors six times. A native of Scio, New York, Brother Paul is a 1973 graduate of the Abbey with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He later earned an advanced certificate in film history and criticism. His film criticism and freshman English courses are among the most popular among students at the College.
At the 2002 Athletic Banquet, Brother Paul was honored for his contributions to the Athletic Department and to the Cross Country Program when the Abbey Trail was renamed "The Brother Paul Trail." At the conclusion of the 2009 Cross Country season, Brother Paul retired from coaching and serves the athletic department as its archivist.
