Courtney Carey was named Belmont Abbey's first dance team coach on January 24, coinciding with the announcement that the school was adding the sport to its intercollegiate lineup.
Carey studied dance at the University of Kentucky before transferring to Belmont Abbey in 2017. She has over 20 years of experience as a competitive dancer, trained in all styles of dance at top-ranked national studios. During that time, she worked under the direction of renowned choreographers such as Travis Wall, Miranda Davis, Mia Michaels, and Dee Caspary.
"Courtney Carey is one of the most impressive individuals ever to walk into my office and interview for a coaching position," Miss said at her hiring. "Her passion for dance, her established relationships with influencers throughout the Dance world, and, most importantly, her articulation of a compelling desire to assist students in their formation and development spiritually, academically, and athletically established her as the ideal individual to lead our program."
Carey earned numerous Title and Overall awards as a group and solo dancer at national competitions throughout the country and once posted the highest score of the competition as a solo dancer.
An Elementary Education and Psychology major at Belmont Abbey, she owns and operates Carey on Dancing, a recreational and competitive dance studio in Cramerton.
