McNeight Named Assistant AD and SWA

BELMONT, N.C. -- Michelle McNeight, a former Division I athlete and up-and-coming athletic administrator, has been named Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations at Belmont Abbey College, Director of Athletics Stephen Miss announced today.

McNeight, who will also serve as Senior Woman Administrator, begins her new role on February 18. Her duties will include oversight of the department's external functions -- development, marketing, communications and the Belmont Abbey Sports Network.

"After conducting an extensive national search, Michelle McNeight, a rising star in athletics administration, emerged as the best overall fit to serve as our Assistant AD for External Operations," Miss said. "Michelle's experiences as a student, coach, and administrator in conjunction with her poise, work ethic, and intelligence position her well to assist our department in delivering on our mission of formation and development to our students."

McNeight comes to The Abbey from Georgia College, where she has worked in the athletic department since 2016 while pursuing a master's degree. During the 2017-18 academic year, McNeight assisted with the compliance office before moving into a marketing role last August. She started out as a volunteer assistant on the women's volleyball coaching staff.

"I'm grateful for the confidence that Abbot Placid, President Thierfelder and Stephen Miss have placed in me by offering me this incredible opportunity," McNeight said. "During my campus visit, Belmont Abbey's culture of excellence and virtue was evident from the beginning and I am excited to be a part of the overall mission of the institution. I am thrilled to be a Crusader and am looking forward to joining the Belmont Abbey team!"

A native of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., McNeight played volleyball at nearby Davidson College, earning a 2016 bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in interdisciplinary Interpersonal Communication Studies.
