Men's Soccer Falls To Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-1

The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team fell at Lenoir-Rhyne by a 2-1 score this evening at Irwin Belk Track. The Crusaders scored first and allowed two second half goals as the Bears improve to 6-1, while the Abbey falls to 2-4-2.

L-R outshot the Abbey 12-7 in the first half but only the Crusaders found the back of the net as Matt Dolan scored for the third-straight match, scoring on a deflection from 30 yards out at the 31:43 mark. Michael Valencia was credited with the assist.

The Crusaders maintained their lead through the first half and up until the 64th minute when the Bears garnered the equalizer. Oliver Worth chipped a free kick into the box, where Nicky Matthews connected on the tying goal at the 63:27 mark.

13 minutes later, Lenoir-Rhyne's Sean Andrews scored the winning goal with a turn and shoot from the center of the box. After that goal, the Abbey registered five unanswered shots, including one from Stuart Kirk, whose missile in the 85th minute hit the post. Lenoir-Rhyne keeper Tom Heath made four saves, three in the last five minutes of the game. Abbey goalkeeper John Max Bolling made seven saves.

The Bears outshot the Crusaders 25-12 and held a 16-4 edge in corner kicks.
