Jake Varilek Finishes 1-2 At NCAA Tournament

Belmont Abbey redshirt freshman Jake Varilek finished 1-2 at the NCAA Division II National Championships, hosted by the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Varilek needed to win one more match to earn All-America honors.

In his opening match, Varilek fell 6-4 to Blake Malloy of Fort Hays State. That loss put him in the consolation bracket, where he dominated Tel Todd of Minnesota-Mankato 8-0.

In his final match, which he needed to win to earn All-America honors, he lost 6-2 to Tad Merritt of St. Cloud State.
